They're meant to be wielded for visual entertainment, not as weapons (like drinks). They have weapon stats because they count as one.

Actually, with 4 special attacks they're ideal for killing a special attack blocker like those used by engineers, then switching to your ranged weapon for the big AS/FullAuto/Fling/Burst hell.
