deltaforce @ 2003-10-31 03:09
hehe i love how in the poem it shows how the dragon ate the poet and the poet keeps writing
chaosgyro @ 2004-02-07 02:05
sorry to burst your bubble but the "mmmmm's" aren't the poet being eaten :) M is the roman numeral for 1000, so that says "29,075" by my reckoning
Sypiken @ 2004-10-27 21:18
loool =P
Lunacya @ 2005-03-03 12:45
romans had different letters for numbers above 1000 for the programmers knowledge :P
Luckyver @ 2005-05-19 16:15
Sorry your roman number theory cant be right, because u mustn't use any letter more than three Times.
Iqloo @ 2005-07-16 09:57
FC's lack of knowledge or just tring to be funny on funcoms part proably.
doog @ 2005-09-29 16:18
You guys really need to get out more often :)
Arenti @ 2005-12-11 14:44
M, however, is the largest numeral without using overlining. Since overlining is relatively unknown today, it can be assumed that in whatever year AO is currently on it would not be known at all and M would in fact be used an unlimited number of times. In my opinion they are roman numerals and are also the number 29,075 as shaosgyro said. If i remember correctly AO is currently in the 30000s and 29075 is probably the year in which whatever the heck the poet is writing about happened. More research required.
Arenti @ 2005-12-11 16:13
More research completed. *chaosgyro, to correct myself. It turns out AO is not actually in the 30000s but rather the late 29000s. Upon checking the extremely convenient official timeline, i found that 29075 is only a few years before the most famous or infamous series of events in Rubi-Ka's history:

29112 - ICC receives the first serious complaints regarding Omni-Tek workers' conditions on Rubi-Ka. The mortality rate of the miners is alarmingly high, as are reports of brutality by security forces. Meanwhile, the salaries of OT workers are starting a downwards slide, caused - officials say - by a decline in the galactic economy and the demand for notum.

November 02 29129 - A notum mine near Omni-2 collapses, trapping three hundred automatons, eighty-five bio-engineered non-sentient creatures, and seventy-two Atrox workers. Omni-Tek refuses to launch a rescue-operation, claiming time and cost concerns, and a limited chance of success.

November 03 29129 - At a press-conference, an Omni-Tek spokesperson utters the infamous lines "They're only Atroxes" and "We're very concerned about our equipment", in reference to the trapped miners.

These are the events which caused the schism of Rubi-Ka. I also did a bit of research on the poem, and after several minutes working on translating it to modern english i found that it is in fact a quotation and MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMLXXV _IS_ a year. Here is a rather good translation of the poem that is mostly not my own:

When lord's will is the law of the land,
Priests intend treachery, and guile turns to figures of speech,
Lechery is called private solace,
And robbery is held to be no crime -
Then shall the land of Albyon be torn into confusioun!
In 29075 and on,
few lords or ladys there shall be.

The original poem is called The Prophecy of Merlin, and the date was MCCCC (1461). Albyon is an archaic name for Britain, but in this case would refer to Rubi-Ka. I believe in this instance the prophesy is of the schism of Rubi-Ka and the creation of the clans.

Arenti..... ur scarry... -.^
Arenti @ 2005-12-11 16:26
Correcting myself once again, the date actually reads MCCCCLX, which is 1460. However, it should read as 1461. Even more confusing, 1460 should be written MCDLX and 1461 MCDLXI (although there may be different rules which are followed here). None of this has any relevancy to the meaning within AO, however, so i will end it here.
Arenti @ 2005-12-11 16:27
Lol, thank you Rktim. =P
Techboy @ 2006-03-24 21:04
Albyon is Scotland actually (derivation alba in gaelic)
Pipinghot @ 2006-03-30 09:52
Albion (in Ptolemy Alouion), is the most ancient name of Great Britain, though often used to refer specifically to England. Occasionally it instead refers to only Scotland, whose name in Gaelic is Alba.
See wikipedia for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albion

In the context of this item, the name of which includes "Merlin Ambrosius", an obvious reference to Arthurian Legend, it's clear that Albyon in the poem is Britain/England, not Scotland.
AlphaCenta @ 2006-05-22 22:10
And... Social armor without GA-not-on-flag... So fixers, yet another item for your smurfsuit :-)

Besides, nice work Arenti ^^
Pyie @ 2006-09-09 03:26
got to get my hands on one.
Whitey @ 2006-11-02 01:02
i would like this, if not for the nano bonuses, then the thought that has been put into this item makes it worth having :)

and thankyou arenti for that lovely research, I found it very interesting

deltaforce @ 2003-10-31 03:09

hehe i love how in the poem it shows how the dragon ate the poet and the poet keeps writing

How in the world did you enterpret that? >.<
AlphaCenta @ 2008-07-01 15:33
@Flatvia, he most likely thought the dragon was making the MMMMMMMMMMM sound because the dragon found that the poet was tasty.
Blindsword @ 2008-11-29 01:01
