The city of Adonis was depopulated, but even if it had few citizens, it continued having an important place in the hearts of people. Few others loved the city like Shax-Mara. She came into being in that city, and she knew every feature of it. She stayed in the city, and gradually she became known as its caretaker. She escorted people safely through it, she tracked items, places, graves for people, she guided visitors and knew every little story from its past. She also protected the city against vandals and even did repair work to delay decay. It was at this time that she lent her essence to this appliance, that can turn one of the weapons of the Redeemed against themselves.
As the years passed, fewer and fewer of the original inhabitants of Adonis lived on in the world. Their spirits departed, and for each spirit that left, a part of Shax-Mara left too.
