Item Database - Boosted Hellspinner Shock Cannon

Boosted Hellspinner Shock Cannon Icon #154361 This unique design from the cyborg Techleader Praetor is an anti-armor device. Creating chaotic balls of energy, it not only inflicts terrible damage, but will occasionally burn through radiation-based defenses. The Hellspinner design is superior to the Hellfury, in that burnt-out radiation armor takes longer to repair.
The original Hellspinner power generator has been replaced with a more powerful Fluctuating Anti-Matter generator, increasing the power of this weapon.

You can look at this gun in 2 ways, from a froobs point of view its really good, one of the best IMHO....from an expansion players view its not that great (mainly down to the long FA recharge) but I just love the way it looks, and sometime whip the old girl out when I'm bored and farming low lvl mobs for w/e :)

lol considering that blackbirds are fixer only, and this is soldier only, i doubt u could weild both of them...

Blackbirds are not fixer only, they can be used by soldiers, also.

My 186 neutral froobie soldier does about 700 min. damage using this gun, wearing the IS chassis (= ~60 in damage adders total) and having the MBS capped (slightly more than 1150 attack rating). This means you need mobs having about 5k+ ACs to "barely do 900 dmg in normal shot". Such mobs exists on RK, for example at RK raids or past 200 missions (enfos/soldiers/bots/etc).

It's exactly these situations where the Hellspinner starts to shine due to it's high min. damage, even more so if you combine high ACs with lowered hit chance. In return it's outpaced by Blackbirds and Hellfury vs. low(er) AC mobs caused by the long special recycle times (~30 secs burst, ~3 min FA).

The proc is a 24% reflect reducer vs. radiation damage with a minor AC decrease for the same damage type; a rather nice thing vs. mobs using reflects, e.g. soldier mobs in missions, radiation damage bosses or Neleb and other uniques. Furthermore, a number of other weapons are based on radiation damage, e.g. the whole CoH weapon line, which results in added benefit for the whole team versus such mobs.

All in all it's a nice gun for the levels 175-189 (190+ is covered by the Augmented version), especially if you use it's advantages at the right time.

As written in the description of the gun, you have to apply a "Fluctuating Anti-Matter generator" to a normal Hellspinner. This requires no tradeskills. The generator can be either looted from the Obediency Inspector (placeholder/PH of the Obediency Enforcer) itself or by buying it from other players.

This was a great weapon before the Shadowlands expansion, and used by many soldiers. Often, they would swap between hellfury (for faster burst cycles) and hellspinner (for more damage and full auto). They were intimidating guns, especially considering most everyone was using a 1-x(crap) weapons. Compare to the old fixer top-ends of Mausser Chemical Streamer (1-400), or the ever-slow Manex Catastrophe (1-750), and you immediately see that these weapons were amazing for their time.

The best justice they could do for them now is to remove the level locks. Though, not sure how many soldiers would give up Perennium for this these days, other than pvp (and the reflect debuff for soldier vs soldier). Still, the choice would be nice. By the time the level locks are met on these guns, they are outdated by expansion gear... though these were very beautiful guns for their time.

Binarybot, for their time? Their time is still now considering the majority of AOs player-base is froob ;) This gun is the best (from a froob soldier point of view mind you). For soldiers... Neutrino Flash->Hellspinner->Boosted Hellspinner->Augmented Hellspinner is the way to go, from lvl 33-200 :) Its almost like the equivalent of what the Master Engineering Pistol is for Engineers except theirs is from lvl 1-200 lol :D
Binarybot @ 2012-12-27 06:23
I wish there was something to fill the gap a bit better between lvl 15 and 71, and between 71 and 175. Other then that, I still hold a sweet spot for these :)

What is the name of the part used for augmenting?
